Today, 2nd of October is known as Gandhi Jayanti, as we celebrate the birthday of Mahatma Karamchand Gandhi, the father of our nation. In 2014, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi started a campaign for cleanliness in India called “Swachh Bharat” and nominated various important figures, across the nation, who would lead such campaigns. Among those, he nominated Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of India Today Group, as well. With this initiative in mind, India Today started SafaiGiri Awards on Gandhi Jayanti, and today marks their second anniversary.
The SafaiGiri Awards recognizes the efforts of those citizens of India, who made outstanding efforts in leading cleanliness in the country. In a long day event, our Bollywood’s reigning princess, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will also be present to congratulate SafaiGiri Awards winners. Alongside her, you will also be able to see music celebrities like Adnan Sami, Mika Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Hans Raj Hans, Kailash Kher, Himesh Reshammiya, Shilpa Roa and more. Together they will be singing “Safai ki Dhun”.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information and Broadcasting, will be the principle speakers at the event. They will also congratulate and present the awards to the deserving Clean India winners of SafaiGiri Awards.
